Cider and Perry

Cider and perry from 100% freshly pressed juice from unsprayed, local fruit

Simple

We use 100% freshly pressed juice from unsprayed fruit to make our ciders and perries.

We generally use the naturally occurring wild yeasts which are in the air and on the fruit to ferment the juice, which highlights the qualities and characteristics of the fruit and the land from which it comes.

An unsprayed apple - not only delicious but essential for making our cider

Local

We strive to use local fruit, by which we mean from Gloucestershire. Very occasionally, we slip across the border to neighbouring counties to obtain fruit varieties we can’t find within our home county - but it MUST be unsprayed.

Responsible

Unsprayed fruit means no chemical sprays at all, no pesticides, ne insecticides, no herbicides, no fungicides so no harm to any of the birds, the bugs or the bees that make traditional orchards thriving, vibrant habitats, home to literally hundreds of species of fauna, flora and funga.

Sustainable

We strive to minimise the negative impact our business has on the environment. For example, using local apples means low food miles.

Wherever possible, we use goods and materials produced in the UK, and wherever possible use goods and materials with a low carbon footprint, that are recyclable and re-usable rather than single use. For example, we use FSC cardboard cartons in which to package our cider, rather than single-use plastic shrink-wrapped trays, despite cardboard being significantly more expensive. There is no Planet B.

Supportive

Without bees there are no apples and without apples there is no cider … which is why we support the Bumblebee Conservation Trust (and have done so since we first started making cider).

Without orchards there are no apples and without apples there is no cider, which is why we support and are actively involved in the Gloucestershire Orchard Trust (and have been since we first started making cider). At present (2026) our Director, David Lindgren, is Chair of Trustees of the Gloucestershire Orchard Trust.

Our Ciders and Perries

Core Range

Our core range is categorised by the type of fruit from which it is made and the names reflect the general characteristics of the cider or perry:

  • FRESH+CRISP = eating apples (available as Medium Dry and Medium Sweet)

  • RICH+MELLOW = cider apples (available as Medium Dry)

  • BRIGHT+BREEZY = perry pears (available as Medium Dry)

We have a Core Range of blended ciders, and a Limited Edition range of single variety ciders or ciders made from a particular location or orchard.

Limited Edition Range

Our Limited Edition range highlights particular varieties of apple or perry pear, such as Brown’s or Brown Snout, or from a particular location, such as the orchard at Henley Bank.

The colour of the text on the labels follows the same categorisation as our core range:

  • text in GREEN means a cider made from an eating apple

  • text in RED means a cider made from a cider apple

  • text in ORANGE means a perry made from perry pears

From year to year, we will experiment with particular Gloucestershire apple varieties, when we can find sufficient fruit of a particular variety. In 2026 we hope to have a small quantity of DYMOCK RED available, also a return of THE COLONEL, our cider made mostly with the divine Ashmead’s Kernel apple. THE SHIRE will make a first appearance in 2026, a blend of almost all the 80 apple cultivars that originate in Gloucestershire, made with the fruit that graced Gloucestershire Orchard Trust’s stand at the Malvern Autumn Show

Also of Gloucestershire provenance is HENLEY BANK perry, made with pears gathered from the orchard owned by the Gloucestershire Orchard Trust in Brockworth, near Gloucester. This represents the first time for many, many years that a harvest was taken from this orchard, a welcome return to productive use after years of neglect.

THE AVENUE+, available in 750ml, is another perry, made from a combination of Thorn and Barland perry pears collected from the avenue of perry trees that leads to Boyce Court, near Dymock. These trees are pictured in the eponymous and seminal book, Perry Pears, by Luckwill & Pollard
